Screen Frame & Legs
The screen frame and legs can be constructed of virtually anything that is rigid enough. For example, initial prototypes we used at Drive-in Worx before the turn of the century included frames made of wood, steel plumbing pipe with iron fittings and steel tent frames with plastic fittings. Each was capable of supporting screens of various sizes. These provided a foundation that enabled us to test a variety of screen materials, but none of them were effective for all of the situations we wanted to support. Subsequent testing proved that light weight steel or aluminum frames provide the best, most transportable results. Heavy plastic fittings are appropriate for screens up to about 10 feet wide. Above that , metal fittings and hardware are required to support the necessary tensions.

Once a frame is in place with a screen on it, you have successfully created a sail!. It's important to add a method of stabilization so a breeze doesn't take your screen for a ride. We use tethering systems using high quality nylon ropes and large stakes in the ground.

We will be updating the site with links to sources of these frames soon, please check back shortly.
